What do you want out of this life?

Anyone else out there miss a deadline? Were you headed toward a goal, full speed ahead, achieving your dreams… then hit a wall?

Me too. It’s human. So, I made a plan.

Five years ago, I made my first vision board about my life and my career. But back then I had no idea that the seemingly random collection of images and words I pasted together, the goals I wrote on the back of the board, would actually come true.

Listen. If you want to make something happen, you need to visualize yourself in it and make a plan. Lock in your destination, so you can know where you’re going. It’s too easy for us to get distracted and let five years – or a lifetime – slip away from us.

In episode 7 of the Black Girl Fly podcast, Tashaunda and I talk about how to visualize goals and make them happen. Discover why we believe in the power of vision-boarding (even Harvard Business School recommends them), and learn what we do to take our goals – and our success – seriously.

Feeling inspired? Call your busy friends and tell them they’re going to a party.

  1. Set up a vision-boarding Zoom call with your closest friends.

  2. Before the call, print out materials for your vision board. Don’t leave your destiny up to your magazine collection!

  3. Plan the duration. Is this a 1-year vision board, 5 years, 10 years?

  4. On the back of the vision board, write the date and write your goals.

  5. Discuss with your friends: what are you going to do tomorrow to make it happen?

Remember: you need to know the destination in order to get there. Cast your vision and get started.
